Rainy Day Comfort

by Hilary Gauntt on March 7, 2013

On a dark cold winter day I was warmed by the inspiration of these beautifully expressed beliefs….

“Everyone of us is called upon, probably many times, to start a new life.  A frightening diagnosis, a marriage, a move, loss of a job…And onward full tilt we go, pitched and wrecked and absurdly resolute, driven in spite of everything to make good on a new shore.  To be hopeful, to embrace one possibility after another -that is surely the basic instinct….Crying out: High tide!  Time to move out into the glorious debris.  Time to take this life for what it is.”
Barbara  Kingsolver,  “High  Tide in Tucson”

“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game’s winning shot….and missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
Michael Jordan

“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”                                                                                                                                                                          Joseph Campbell

“Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.”
John Muir

“Life is so generous a giver. But we, judging its gifts by their covering, cast them away as ugly or heavy or hard. Remove the covering, and you will find beneath it a living splendor, woven of love, by wisdom, with power. Welcome it, grasp it, and you touch the angel’s hand that brings it to you. Everything we call a trial, a sorrow or a duty, believe me, that angel’s hand is there. The gift is there and the wonder of an overshadowing presence. Life is so full of meaning and purpose, so full of beauty beneath its covering that you will find earth but cloaks your heaven. Courage then to claim it, that is all.
Fra Giovanni Giocondo

“When life gives you more than you can stand……. Kneel.”      Unknown
