Summer Berries

by Hilary Gauntt on August 13, 2011

When berries are in season, this is a simple and delicous way to serve them.  They look like shiny jewels in a glass bowl when served with cake or ice cream, or just on their own in a stemmed glass.  Use any combination of berries you like. This recipe might  have the world’s record for appearance in Junior League cookbooks across the country!

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup good Burgandy

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1 tbl. lemon juice

1 pint each fresh raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries

Bring sugar and water to a boil, reduce heat and stir until sugar dissolves.  Remove from heat and add cinnamon, lemon juice and wine.  Cool.

Pour the liquid over washed berries, and refrigerate. Can be made early in the day.  Strawberries work well also.
