With a heavy heart I wish to share the passing of Virginia Vlack Tedrow a week ago today. Everything I like about myself I attribute to her, just a perfect role model for motherhood, optimism and kindness. My interest in cooking and food came from growing up in her kitchen, and I’ve inherited dozens of recipe filled binders that will be hard to part with. I have a trove of letters that I will always treasure, written with a fountain pen in her exquisite handwriting; thanking me for holidays and gifts and telling me how wonderful I am, how my children are perfection and my husband admirable. A lost art.
She “made” 95 on St. Patrick’s day as they say in New Orleans, but had been ready to move on to the Next Room for quite some time. Having her as my Mom was one of the greatest blessings of my life. A committed volunteer, smart as Hell, warm, witty and could put a good spin on the worst situation.
Lucky us.
With great-grandson Wyatt 11 years ago.

Expressing appreciation that this wonderful being was your mother. I see and feel all the best of those human attributes you describe in you. It’s people like Birginia that make us all want to be better people!
Thank you for sharing these thoughts and this photo.
Just looking at her smile makes me feel better! Carry on, dear Hilary.
So appreciate this message Deb! And your Father just making 100! Who Knew?
