Hot Toddy

I have a summer cold and have been coughing and moping around for the past few days. Getting a cold this time of year just feels so wrong. My husband also seems to be getting sick (uh-oh, man cold alert!) To soothe our sore throats and lift our spirits, I made Hot Toddies after dinner last night and it sure hit the spot.

If you or someone you love is suffering from a summer cold, or just craving a comforting beverage, give this drink a try. It will help relieve the cold symptoms and pretty much guarantee a good night’s sleep. I found the recipe on Epicurious.

Hot Toddy

  • 1 oz (2 tablespoons) bourbon (we used a bit more..)
  • 1 tablespoon mild honey (or agave syrup)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup boiling-hot water
  • Optional: add a cinnamon stick and/or a dash of cloves, nutmeg, etc. for additional flavor

Put bourbon, honey, and lemon juice in a 6-ounce mug. Top off with hot water and stir until honey is dissolved.
