Snoop Dog’s Billionaire’s Bacon

by Hilary Gauntt on February 21, 2019

I never would have guessed I’d be sharing a recipe from rap icon Snoop Dog. But he’s now a force in the food world since his TV partnership with Martha Stewart called “Martha and Snoops Potluck Dinner Party”. Even harder to believe that of the two, it’s Martha who’s the convicted felon!

It was inevitable, I suppose, that with the success of the show, a cook book would be forthcoming. “From Crook to Cook” is amazingly well reviewed on Amazon, with purchasers finding it fun to read and with recipes you’d actually want to make. Not just his take on mac and cheese and a fried bologna sandwich with chips, but Lobster Thermidor and filet mignon. I loved the humorous names such as “Faux-tisserie Chicken”, and “Baby Got Back Ribs”. And of course his favorite (cough) “herb” is featured often, as in what he terms his greatest recipe, “Bow Wow Brownies”. He suggests you add a sprinkle of his special herbs and spices to make it better, and encourages the reader to “Go get baked.”

Snoop’s bacon recipe was offered in Oprah Magazine last month, and it is a treat! Maybe not something you would make all the time, but I bet kids would love this. Bake thick slices with brown sugar and red pepper flakes and you have a crisp, glistening, sweet and spicy mouthfull.

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

1 tsp. ground black pepper

1/2 to 1 tsp. red pepper flakes (the more, the spicier)

8 slices thick cut bacon

With a rack in the top third of the oven, preheat to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, place a wire rack on top of foil, and set aside.

In a small bowl, stir together sugar, pepper, and red pepper flakes. On wire rack, lay bacon slices and evenly sprinkle brown sugar mixture over them. Bake, rotating the pan halfway to ensure even cooking, until bacon is crispy and glazed, 25 to 30 minutes.

Remove baking sheet from oven and let cool 5 minutes. Serve warm with eggs or pancakes. Serves 4.

Note: I would start light with the pepper flakes, and make sure you have thick cut bacon.

Why is it hard to believe that Snoop is not a convicted felon (besides the obvious)?? That’s an inappropriate sentence. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt because I don’t know you, but you should take a second to read what you type. Not every rapper & person of color is a felon.

Thanks

I appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt. My comment was meant mainly to note how odd it is that the country’s premier authority on taste and culture has spent time in prison. Actually Snoop has spent time in jail several times as well as admitting to working as a pimp. But has been living a very interesting and admirable life of late. I think it was the contrast of the two I was drawing attention to (and I’m sure that’s why the show is a hit) and I apologize if that came across as assuming because he is a rapper that he was a likely excon.

The comment, itself, is incorrect. They’re actually both convicted felons. Snoop has 2 felony convictions from the 90s for drugs and firearms.

Regardless, I appreciate you sharing the recipe. I was considering buying the book but was curious what the recipes would be like.

You might as well save your breath because the comments I read are just ignorant and they obviously don’t live in the real works

It’s awesome, and the aforementioned comment is only inappropriate in a book called From Crook to Cook if you are a humorless turd named Karen.

Funny how “Karen’s” mind went there first thing🤔.
Who really has the issues here😂

What a bunch of idiotic off topic comments beginning with Laney. This is about a recipe not people. These are two very cool people I’d love to spend an afternoon with in the kitchen. End of story.

I made this then put it between halves of King Hawaiian rolls, held it in place with a bit of mayo. I topped it with a smear of tomato paste and a sliver of avocado (from our tree no less) and topped it with the other half. Jim’s candied bacon, tomato, avocado sandwich! Snoop Dogg would like this.

By the way, MARTHA STEWART is a FELON and had been to federal prison. SPEAK ON THAT now the 2 felons have a COOKING SHOW.

Archie Bunker was right. In todays world, some of these people would never survive his show or The Jefferson’s.

Has anyone tried making this using pre-cooked bacon?
